New Board Packed With Captains Of Industry To Drive New Chapter For The MBDA

The Mandela Bay Development Agency has inducted its new Board.
The ten new members joined a genial assembly at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, where they were welcomed and introduced to the MBDA as an implementation agency of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, focused on the urban regeneration and the revitalization of Nelson Mandela Bay.

The assembly was led by newly appointed Board Chair, Mr Khulile Nzo, supported by MBDA CEO, Mr Anele Qaba, Company Secretary, Mr. Mbulelo Matiwane, and the MBDA Executive team. Members were given a thorough overview of the Agency’s background, its establishment, growth, and development, as well as its
operational structure. Mr. Nzo encouraged open dialogue, emphasizing the responsibility of the Board to take an active and fully- participative approach.

MBDA CEO, Mr. Anele Qaba, noted the strategic advantage that the new Board lends to the Agency. “The Board’s collective experience adds incredible strategic value to unleash our city’s potential,” he says. “This Board has the potential to act as a rocket ship for the MBDA. Their collective expertise and leadership will
accelerate our impact and show our communities tangible results.”

He continues: “The Board plays a critical role in strengthening governance and accountability by providing strategic oversight, ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory frameworks, and upholding ethical leadership. The Board is expected to guide management through clear policies, risk management systems, and
performance monitoring, while promoting transparency and integrity in all organisational processes. A strong and objective Board ensures that decisions are aligned with the entity’s mandate and that public resources are managed responsibly and effectively”.
NMBM Acting COO, Mr. Nkosana Dujane, was in attendance as a representative of the shareholder. “A successful relationship between the Board and Executive Management should be characterised by mutual respect, clear role distinctions, open communication, and shared accountability,” he says. He also emphasised
that trust and collaboration are essential to ensure that both parties work towards common goals for improved service delivery and community benefit.

Cllr. Bassie Kamana, NMBM Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Development, Tourism, and Agriculture, addressed the new Board. He reminded members that the MBDA is directly accountable to the Municipality and entrusted with steering one of its most critical entities. “It is a direct vote of confidence to be appointed to the Board. It is also a call to duty. You are now custodians of public trust and the position must be carried with seriousness and integrity,” he said. He congratulated the new Board and extended his support, highlighting that transparency and accountability will be the barometer of success.
Board Chair, Mr. Khulile Nzo, expressed a vision of leading an entity that is well-governed, financially stable, and that continues to operate with professionalism and accountability. “Our work will strengthen institutional credibility and drive strategic growth.” The Board Chair says that he aims to foster a culture of ethical
leadership, innovation, and teamwork to enable the entity to achieve its mandate.

In his position of Board Chair, Mr. Khulile Nzo is supported by newly elected members including Mr. Ernest Bergins, Ms. Xoliswa Daku, Ms. Palesa Kadi, Mr. Loyiso Nkantsu, Ms. Nande Mheshe, Mr. Weza Moss, Mr. Odwa Mtati, Ms. Dorelle Sapere, and Ms. Nomhle Tys. The Board’s collective experience spans both the public
and private sectors, with a diverse portfolio of expertise that includes property development, construction and project management, entrepreneurship, law, tourism, human capital management, and investment.
