Art for Purpose, Culture and Change: MBDA launches Kulture Korner Dialogue Series
Winter afternoons will bring thought-provoking conversations to St Peter’s Rainbow Village as the Mandela Bay Development Agency launches the Kulture Korner Dialogue Series.
From 16h00 on the last three Friday afternoons in June, creatives, artists, academics and activists are invited to join conversations that explore art and community as tools for reflection, culture, and social change.
Kulture Korner Dialogue Series convenor, Creative Industries Coordinator Oyama Vanto, says that the conversations will highlight how the intersection of history, culture and creativity can shape a city and a people. “If you care about culture and social change, you will find a lot to excite and interest you at the Kulture Korner sessions,” he says. “The afternoons on the deck will be about connecting, reflecting, and challenging ourselves. We’ll enjoy a meeting of the minds.”
He adds that St Peter’s Rainbow Village lends itself well to conversations of this nature, as the site is a strong symbol of heritage and the preservation of the stories and culture that mean something to the people of Nelson Mandela Bay.
MBDA Acting CEO, Mr Unati Peter, eagerly anticipates the launch of the dialogue series. “Members of the public are invited to participate in these stimulating and thought-provoking conversations. St Peter’s Rainbow Village is a living example of how creative spaces can transform neglected areas into places of dialogue, belonging, and possibility.
Through these conversations, the MBDA affirms its commitment to development that is rooted in people, heritage, culture, and the power of ideas. “
The conversations are open to members of the public. Space is limited and attendance is by RSVP only. Please email stpeters@mbda.co.za to secure your place. Light refreshments will be available.
