Honouring 150 years of St Peter’s in South End
This Sunday, 9 November 2025, a quiet gathering will take place at the St Peter’s Church ruins in South End to mark 150 years since the Church’s first cornerstone was laid.
A small, closed group of former South End residents, their families, and representatives from the Church Diocese will meet for a special commemorative service at the ruins. They will honour the Church’s history, share their stories of the past, and reflect on the significant role that St Peter’s has played in the lives of South End residents.
The site, which was recently re-opened to the public as St Peter’s Rainbow Village, has been rehabilitated by the Mandela Bay Development Agency. It now functions as a community heritage site with free entry for the public on weekdays and Saturdays. It incorporates walkways along the hillside, a small ampitheatre, and a viewing deck that offers views of the Central CBD and harbour.

Open Monday to Friday from 08h00 to 16h00, and Saturday from 10h00 to 15h00.
