Pitch Refresh at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium

The Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium team is getting the pitch ready for the new season with a full refresh.

The inner bowl pitch will be resurfaced, with the old grass and a layer of soil being removed. New sand, seed, and fertilizer will be added.

The growth phase takes about six weeks. During this time, the bowl will be a restricted area.

The grass and soil that come up are shredded into a nutrient‑rich material. In the past, this has been used to dress the Stadium’s outer fields. This time it will be repurposed to help beautify the lakeside area opposite the World of Windows, which will be levelled, covered, and re‑grassed.

This process will ensure a world‑class playing surface in the Stadium bowl, and contribute to sustainable improvements in the stadium precinct.
